It is too shocking that India ranks only 109 in mobile internet speeds in the world. But at the same time, it also has made us feel proud by standing at 76 in fixed broadband globally.
These rankings have been notified by Ookla’s November Speed Test Global Index.
India and Its Neighbour Countries
As per Ookla, the average speed of mobile downloading in India was found 7.65 Mbps at the starting of the year 2017. Soon, with the starting of November, the speed raised to 8.80 Mbps. Unfortunately, India is ranked below it neighbor countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. in mobile internet speeds.
According to studies done by Ookla, the mobile internet speeds in India has achieved only 15% increase. Whereas India met with fifty percent increase in fixed broadband and reached 18.82 Mbps. Norway is at number one position in mobile internet speeds which has the speed of 62.66Mbps. Singapore stands at the top of fixed broadband and has an average download speed of 153.85Mbps.
Ookla Observations for India in 2018
Ookla has few observations for the Indian market in the year 2018. The company says that internet speeds will certainly improve in the Indian market in the coming year. It will lead to higher demand for internet speed and usage in users. The report has also notified regarding rising of 4G in the Indian market. The year 2017 played an important role in raising the importance of 4G in India.
In 2017, we saw the entrance of Reliance Jio in the market along with its paid services that have created a data war in Indian telecom sector. Other telecom players such as Vodafone, Airtel, Idea Cellular are now offering 1GB data per day in their packs for customers after the entry of Jio in the market.
